Influences of Urban Discharges and Urban Heat Effects on Stream Temperature

چکیده
Urban areas with dark and impermeable surfaces are known to have a heating effect on air still water compared surrounding areas, called the urban heat island (UHI). UHI stormwater discharges’ collective impact stream temperature, especially regarding seasonal changes, is less-studied field. In this study, temperature of village Aarslev Stream Vindinge in Southern Denmark was examined. Loggers (ID A–L) were placed 2020–2021, measuring (°C) pressure (kPa). Outlets analyzed respect origin: Direct outlets (rain ÷ basin), delayed by ponds + common overflow, sewage from WWTP. Data showed rise through all months (except March) 0.3–1.9 °C, most notably summer months. A one-way ANOVA confirmed that upstream station downstream K significantly different (p-values < 0.001). No significant difference temperatures between outlet types found. An increase observed response rain events, followed decrease. This assumed be “first flush”. speculated mean less optimal conditions for trout sensitive macroinvertebrates not because shock, but rather lower O2 concentrations higher mineralization. River lake projected increase, might become more pronounced. decrease after (station L). Therefore, it concluded due UHI.

متن کاملEffects of urbanization and urban stream restoration on the physical and biological structure of stream ecosystems.
Streams, as low-lying points in the landscape, are strongly influenced by the stormwaters, pollutants, and warming that characterize catchment urbanization. River restoration projects are an increasingly popular method for mitigating urban insults. Despite the growing frequency and high expense of urban stream restoration projects, very few projects have been evaluated to determine whether they...
متن کاملInfluences of sudden changes in discharge and physical stream characteristics on transient storage and nitrate uptake in an urban stream
Changes in the physical structure of urban streams can occur abruptly due to flashy high-flow events and subsequently alter stream processes, including transient storage and nitrate uptake. We examined temporal variability in transient storage and nitrate uptake by exploring the effects of altered physical characteristics resulting from a single high-flow event in three reaches of Spring Creek,...

Surface Urban Heat Island (SUHI) is a phenomenon of high spatial and temporal variability. However, studies that investigate urban land surface temperature (LST) observed in different seasons frequently utilize a single satellite measurement and do not incorporate temporal composites. Temporally aggregated data increase clear sky coverage, which is important in many aspects of urban climatology...
